2Up-stroke strumming
3Strumming lightly on first few strings
416 beat strum

Restricted Zone Practice

Today, I am gonna show you guys a very effective practice routine to take your guitar playing to another level. This exercise covers chords, chords tones , scales and a lot more.

This practice is based on the CAGED system which you guys already mastered sometimes back.

Basically, it takes the fingering fretboard zone of a particular CAGED shape, restrict the movement of the various exercise within that zone. Let’s look at an example:

If we play a C-Shape F chord, we are fretting fret 5 to fret 8. So, we restrict our fingering movement within that few frets and play all the related family chords, chord tones of them, and the scale.

Say we playing F family chords in that area, this will be how we play F , Gm7, Am7, Bb , C7 , Dm7 , Em7b5 :

As you can see, all the movement are restricted within fret 5 to fret 8. This concept can then be applied to scale practice and chord tones practice.

By going through this, you will master the fretboard by exploring different shape of of chords/scales for each CAGED system. Let’s get into it!!
