New Chord Shapes

The cousin of C : C7

C7 chord

Just add one note to C major chord

The sibling of F : Fm

F minor chord

Just shift one note of F major chord



The *”chord progression” of C->C7->F->Fm is very beautiful, due to the descending of note of C->Bb->A->Ab. You may also go to the practice songs for today lesson and listen to this chord progression (C>C7>F>Fm) in action!!

To wrap up this lesson’s new chords section, let’s introduce the buddies of Dm chord: D and D7

D major chord
D7 chord


Just shift one note per chord from D minor chord. Here’s the transformation:

Dm -> D -> D7

Basic Guitar Strumming – You can strum Up/Down too!!

In last lesson, we strum downwards one stroke per beat. Let’s try to strum upwards on the way back.

Practice#1: Try to listen to the counting beat (the Tok-Tok cowbell sound) below and try strumming the various patterns above:

Press a “C Major” chord and strum the above pattern
