GSCC Lesson 10
Revision of Lesson 01-09
If you are new to this series, here’s the links to past lessons:
We had covered the common chords in key of C Major and G Major. And we also look at the bass note for each chords (Those circled in RED , which is very important for plucking).

Key of C major and G major are common keys used by guitarist to play sing-along guitar.
We also looked at the guitarist best friend – CAPO , and it’s application.

When we use the CAPO in conjunction with chords from C and G keys above , we are able to play almost every pop songs we wanted to play.
We have also looked at some basic strumming patterns:
1 | One strum per beat |
2 | Up-stroke strumming |
3 | Strumming lightly on first few strings |
4 | 16 beat strum |
5 | Campfire Strum |
6 | “Chuck” Strum |
And , we had started exploring “PLUCKING”. Another very important techniques in guitar playing.

And our first plucking pattern – 8 beat Pluck #1

And of course, we had fun learning all these songs !!

New chord shapes – the last remaining family chord in key of C and G
If we examine the family chords we learned so far, we had covered chords from all the notes (without sharp and flat) in the C major key, except B.

Let’s look at the missing piece of the puzzle.

You can think of it as adding a “B” note (7th note of the key) on the 2nd chord of the key – Dm

For key of G major, here’s the counterpart:

You can think of it as adding a “F#” note (7th note of the key) on the 2nd chord of the key – Am.

And with these chords, we had completed the family chords of C and G major key:

Basic Guitar Plucking –
8 beat Pluck # 2 – Double String Pluck
Let’s try out the following pattern:

On beat 2,3,4, we are plucking 2 strings together. Making them sounding fuller.
Practice#1: Try to listen to the counting beat (the Tok-Tok cowbell sound) below and try executing the plucking pattern above:
Practice them with chords (pay attention to the changing BASS strings where right hand thumb has to switch to different string)

* Pay attention to the changing bass strings.
Practice #2: Follow the chords changes and pluck with the beat count
Plucking pattern for 2 chords bar
We always start a new chord by playing the bass string, and the pattern is reset (playing again from the start). That’s mean, when there is a chord changes, we need to restart the pattern , playing the bass note first.
So far the practices/songs were to play the pattern for a full bar – 1n2n3n4n. What if there’s 2 chords in one bar? For example: C chord for 1n2n, Am chord for 3n4n. If we use the plucking pattern 01 (T1213121), we will be playing: “C”-T121, “Am”-T121. In this case, “3” will not be played. We can solve this issue by using Plucking Pattern 02, which 3 will also be played if there were 2 chords in one bar.
Practice #3: Using this plucking pattern (8 beat pluck #2) , listen to the practice songs in lesson 1-9 and pluck together with the counting beat
